The one where we get a puppy

November 2020

We decided to get a puppy! Surprise! We are so excited, especially because we thought this wasn’t going to be possible for us until after we graduate. But, 2020 has changed a lot of things, and we thought, “Why wait?”

So after a couple of weeks of considering the reality of what getting a puppy would mean for us (yes, it included an official pros and cons list), we found one! I texted my friend Sarah who has an adorably perfect golden retriever, Walker, to ask where they had gotten their dog a couple years ago. Turns out, her dog came from her uncle, who just happened to have another litter of puppies available right now! He actually had 2 litters at the same time, and the moms are Walker’s mom and his sister.

The litter from Walker’s sister is non-AKC certified, and there are a total of TEN puppies, 5 girls and 5 boys. This is where our sweet pup came from. We committed to getting a boy from that litter but wouldn’t go up to Lebanon, TN to choose which one for a while longer.

And so we began preparing for the puppy to come home to our little apartment! We have gone to Petco so many times already, and I have done many hours of research to make sure we have all the essentials when our little one arrives. (Blog post coming soon about alllll the things we got.)

We decided his name will be “Nashville” because that’s where we met and fell in love! (And we plan to get a second dog one day, and name it after another city that means a lot to us.) We got lots of pictures and videos sent from the breeders in the meantime. And I even started a puppy Instagram @nashvillethegolden_

And then, it was finally time to go meet him! This weekend, we made the drive up to Tennessee to visit with family and pick out our puppy! We had two to choose from, and we chose the darker colored one. He is sooo cuddly and calm!

We already love him so much and we cannot wait to bring him home!! He will be coming to my parent’s house on Black Friday to stay for the week after Thanksgiving and then we will bring him back to Atlanta on December 6!
