3/22/19
The first day of APhA Annual Meeting is coming to a close and it has been a whirlwind already! Serving as a regional officer for the 2018-2019 year allows me a special role in helping coordinate some student sessions during the meeting, all while experiencing it for the first time.
This morning started with an Open Hearing on the resolutions and new business that APhA-ASP will be voting on this weekend. The regional delegates and members at large helped to facilitate this session and there was so much discussion from the chapters in attendance.
We then headed to Regional Meet and Greets, during which the 3 regional officers took the lead in helping their region’s members network with one another, go over the resolutions, and participate in Seattle themed trivia. It was so nice to see so many familiar faces from the biggest region in ASP!
Right after the Meet and Greet, the MRM liaisons (appointed by each school to be the point of contact as I work to plan our midyear regional meeting this Fall in Atlanta) stayed for a quick introduction to all the committee chairs from Mercer and myself.
We then headed to the chapter leader workshops. I attended the President/President-Elect workshop led by National President and President-Elect Nimit Jindal and Kelli Jo Welter. Between taking notes, I ran microphones around the room as the top leaders from across the country asked questions and shared their chapter’s successes over the past year.
The MRMCs then all helped to hand out information for the Leadership training series session, an educational meeting eligible for certification. This was followed shortly by the Opening Session, an elegant session filled with displays of talent, lessons from past ASP leaders, and chapter awards.
We filmed a quick MRM promotion video with the regional officers from region 3 before heading back to the hotel room for some studying before bed.
What an inspiring day and great start to my first APhA Annual Meeting! I am so thankful for the opportunity to visit Seattle and be amongst some of the best pharmacists and student pharmacists in the country.
