I am lucky enough to be in my hometown for a pharmacy conference this weekend! I made the familiar drive to Murfreesboro to the Tennessee Pharmacists Association Summer Meeting. After meeting several TPA members in DC several months ago, I was encouraged to get involved with my home state pharmacy association, and I’m so glad I did!
After a quick “Summer Meeting 101” session, this morning started with a TSSP meeting. TSSP is the Tennessee Society of Student Pharmacists, and it was particularly interesting to me to connect with a lot of my fellow students from Tennessee and see how the student section of the state association works here compared to Georgia.
We then headed to the House of Delegates meeting where we got updates from the various committees (awards, continuing education, legislative and regulatory, ad hoc membership engagement, ad hoc ambulatory care/collaborative practice), the TN Pharmacy Recovery Network, the TN Board of Pharmacy, PharmPAC, TSSP, and a report from the treasurer and executive director. We also had a short business meeting and PharmPAC meeting.
The exhibits then opened and we visited with all the various exhibitors and pharmacists before a yummy lunch in the expo hall.
Then we heard from 2019-2020 APhA President, Brad Tice, on an overview on national priorities for the upcoming year.
We then got some updates from the United States Pharmacopeial Convention on the new USP 795, 797, and 800. Then Rebecca Snead, the Executive Vice President and CEO of NASPA (National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations), gave an update on Pharmacists Provider status across the country.
We ended the night with a delicious dinner and awards ceremony for the many pharmacists who have made big strides to make a difference in our profession. Congratulations to everyone who won an award tonight!
I can’t wait for day 2!
